Obituary

Mr. Richard Murphy, 71, of Tifton, Georgia, passed away on January 27, 2021, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton.  Mr. Murphy was born on August 2, 1949, in Cook County to the late Herman Lee Murphy and Frances Ella Watson Murphy.  He lived most of his life in Cook and Tift Counties.  Mr. Murphy was a member at the Beulah Holiness Baptist Church in Cook County and had retired as the Director of the Sunnydale Training Center in Ocilla, Georgia.  He also served as the Headmaster of the Pathway Day School in Savannah, Georgia, worked as an accountant for the City of Savannah and the Savannah Transit Authority, and served as Administrator of the Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.  He was an accomplished pianist playing for churches and singing groups.  Mr. Murphy was also an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by Nancy C.  Murphy; two daughters and sons-in-law: Heather and Dr. David Johnson, and Dodie and Robert Gartman; and two granddaughters: Hannah and Megan Johnson, all of Tifton, Georgia.

A graveside service was held at 4:00 PM on Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Beulah Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Michael Cobb officiating and the eulogy provided by Mrs. Heather Johnson.  Interment followed.  Dr. David Johnson, Robert Gartman, Gabe Cobb and Brian Ruis served as pallbearers.  Robert Gartman played guitar and joined Hannah Johnson in the singing of "The Anchor Holds."
