Mrs. Rubye Ivey Griffin, 99, of Adel, Georgia, passed away January 1, 2015 at her son's home. She was born in Lenox, Georgia on March 31, 1915 to the late Joseph Eason Ivey and Zula Partin Ivey. She was a lifelong resident of Cook County and a member of Massee Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and served her family honorably for many years as a homemaker.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Frances Griffin of Adel; four grandchildren: Alan Griffin, Erin Griffin, Gina Van Metre, and Gail Full, all of Adel; eleven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Lovett Griffin; a great-grandson, Robby Drummond; two brothers: Curtis Ivey and George Ivey; and eight sisters: Etta Mae Baldree, Resi Lee Sutton, Estelle Clyatt, Mozelle Ragans, Sally Moseley, Ethel Wood, Odessa Young, and Lynette Fincher.
The Griffin family received friends Saturday January 3, 2015 from 6 until 8 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service took place Sunday January 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Massee Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Milliken, Rev. Warren Chesser, and Rev. Ashley Way officiating. Interment followed at Crossroads Church Cemetery. Wayne and Mary Nell Boyette sang "This Is What Heaven Means to Me," "Scars in the Hands of Jesus," and "When I've Traveled My Last Mile;" Mrs. Boyette also played the piano. Alan Griffin, Keith Van Metre, Jason Griffin, Hugh Young, Mike Fincher, Lee Ivey, and Kevin Van Metre served as active pallbearers; Jesse Henderson, Jerry Joiner, John Ulm, Lloyd Tribble, Jackie Raley, and Don Carnine served as honorary pallbearers.
