Mr. Sam Adams, Sr., 63, of Adel passed away on October 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 1, 1954 in Adel to Rossie and Hazel Griffis Adams, both now deceased. He traveled the United States building power plants for 23 years while working for Zachary Holdings. He served his country honorably in the United States Army.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debra "Debbie" Adams of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam Adams Jr. and Misty Adams of San Antonio, TX; two daughters: Michelle Marie Mitchum of Summerville, SC and Sandra L. "Sandy" Koen of Adel; eleven grandchildren; a brother, Levy Adams of Moultrie; a special cousin and his wife, Buster and Ruby Duren; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alda Oliver.
The family received friends Monday October 9, 2017 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home South, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The Celebration of Life service took place Tuesday October 10, 2017 at 11 am in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Minister Bryan Spell officiating. Special musical selections played at the service were "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "Jealous of the Angels."
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.JDRF.org. The family would also like to thank Pruitt Health Hospice and the Cancer Treatment Center of America for their care and guidance during this difficult time. The family is honoring the wishes of Mr. Adams to be cremated following the funeral service.
