Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Sumner Hines, 70, of Adel, Georgia passed away Monday May 19, 2014 at her sister's residence in Valdosta, Georgia. She was born February 11, 1944 in Hahira, Georgia to the late George Washington Sumner and the late Bessie Wood Sumner. She lived in Cook County for most of her life and was a member of Gordon Avenue Baptist Church in Adel, and she worked as a self-employed seamstress.

Mrs. Hines is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: David Hines of Adel, Steve and Sally Hines of Jacksonville, Florida, and Lesley and April Hines of Gainesville, Florida; three grandchildren: Jenna Hines of Bismarck, North Dakota, Jared Hines of Jacksonville, Florida, and Aaron Hines of Great Mills, Maryland; a great-grandchild, Sage Hines of Bismarck, North Dakota; two brothers: Roger Sumner of New York, and Robert Sumner of Birmingham, Alabama; and four sisters: Peggy Hooker of Birmingham, Judy Meadows of Memphis, Tennessee, Marsha Daughtrey of Valdosta, and Teresa Sumner of Warner Robins, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Hines; three brothers: George, Jimmy, and Randy Sumner; and a sister, Margaret Hendley.

Visiting hours for the Hines family was held Wednesday May 21, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service took place Thursday May 22, 2014 at 11 am at Gordon Avenue Baptist Church (Adel) with Rev. Wayne Boykin and Rev. Roger Sumner officiating. Interment took place in Pavo, Georgia at Lebanon Cemetery at 1:30 pm following the funeral service. Amanda Dees, Mychal Riley Percival, and Denise Percival sang "Amazing Grace" and "Beulah Land"; the brothers and sisters of Mrs. Hines sang "It Is Well With My Soul." David Hines, Steve Hines, Lesley Hines, Jared Hines, Brent Sumner, and Blake Daughtrey served as pallbearers. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com .
