Mrs. Shirley J. McClain, 86, of Adel, Georgia passed away on July 1, 2022 at The Canopy at Azalea Grove in Valdosta, Georgia.  She was born on May 1, 1936 to the late William Theodore "W.T." Jones and Essie Mae McDuffie Jones.  Mrs. McClain was a longtime member of the Adel First Baptist Church and lived in Cook County for the past 61 years.  She was a retired bookkeeper for the Cook County Board of Education.

Mrs. McClain is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Scotty and Cindy McClain of Longmont, Colorado and Terry and Audrey McClain of Adel; five grandchildren: Matthew and Lauren McClain of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Jenna and Fredrick Goncharov of Aurora, Colorado, Cole McClain, Elizabeth McClain and Caroline McClain, all of Adel; and two sisters: Carolyn McDevitt and Gwendolyn Avery, both of the Atlanta, Georgia area.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Adel with Rev. Dr. Neal Sweet and Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating.  Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.  Cole McClain, Matthew McClain, Mitchel McClain, Kyle McClain, Michael Felts and Glenn Beard served as pallbearers.  Sheila Humber played piano at the service.  Visitation was held at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
