Mrs. Virginia Howze Sumner, 84, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on June 6, 2026 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia.  Mrs. Sumner was born on October 4, 1941 in Adel to the late Gruver Nelson Howze and the late Thelma Catherine Odom Howze.  She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 47 years, last working with and retiring from Southern OB-GYN Associates in Valdosta, Georgia.  She lived all of her life in Cook County and was a member of Gordon Avenue Baptist Church in Adel.

Mrs. Sumner is survived by her daughter, Tantress "Tammy" Sumner of Valdosta; three grandchildren: Ramsey Hughes of Hahira, Georgia; Trinity "Trinny" and Heath Cox of Macon, Georgia; Patricia "Trish" Sumner and Bradley Patterson of Atlanta, Georgia; two great grandchildren, Harper Hughes of Hahira and Camdyn Cox of Macon; two sisters, Opal Sumner of Hahira and Jane Whiddon of Tifton, Georgia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Roger Sumner; one son and daughter-in-law, Trent Roger Sumner and Virginia "Ginny" Smith Sumner; two brothers, Roy Howze and Paul Howze; and one sister, Dona Faye Aguon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday June 10, 2026 in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Ray officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery Annex.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave; Adel, Georgia.  Gage Sumner, Keith Howze, David Aguon, Will Howze and Ty Howze will serve as pallbearers.  "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden" will be played at the service.
