Mr. Wendell Roger Sumner, 76, of Adel, Georgia, passed away November 3, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia. He was born December 17, 1937 in Sumner, Georgia to the late George Millard Sumner and Doris Johnson Sumner. He was a Baptist and had lived in Cook County for the past 54 years. He was a diesel mechanic and served as the owner and operator of Adel Diesel for many years.
Mr. Sumner is survived by his wife, Virginia Howze Sumner of Adel; a daughter, Tantress "Tammy" Sumner of Valdosta; three grandchildren: Ramsey and Dustin Hughes of Boston, Georgia, Trinity "Trinny" and Heath Cox of Valdosta, and Patricia "Trish" Sumner of Valdosta; a brother, Randall Carlton Sumner of Nashville, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Trent Roger Sumner and Virginia "Ginny" Smith Sumner; and a brother, Ronald Wadell Sumner.
The family received friends Thursday November 6, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service took place Friday November 7, 2014 at 11 am in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Boykin officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex. Special selections played at the service were "Dancing with the Angels" and "You Raise Me Up;" Nancy Smith played the piano. Keith Howze, Lloyd Cole, Dustin Hughes, Jeff Vining, Deacon Hudson, and Gregg Howze served as pallbearers. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com.
