Mr. Wilbur C. Folsom, 83, of Hahira, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Holly Hill Nursing Home in Valdosta, Georgia. He was born in Adel, Georgia on August 18, 1935. Mr. Folsom's parents were the late Bob and Rosa Irene Harrell Folsom. He lived in Cook and Lowndes Counties most of his life and was a member of Bemiss Road Baptist Church. Mr. Folsom was retired from the U.S. Post Office after 20 years of service and was also retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service including service during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Folsom is survived by his wife, Avenell Tillman Folsom of Hahira; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Christie Folsom of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; a daughter, Karen T. Folsom of Hahira; two grandchildren: Heather and Allen Corbin of Adel and Dusty Folsom of Hahira; two great-grandchildren: Allen Corbin and Tristen Corbin, both of Adel; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Linda Folsom of Adel; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tessie and John Vickers of Hahira; a sister-in-law, Delores Tillman of Adel; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lewis and Jan Tillman of Jacksonville, Florida; two nephews: Mark Folsom of Adel and Daniel Folsom of Savannah, Georgia; and a host of other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Folsom.
The funeral service for Mr. Folsom was held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Bemiss Road Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Edwards and Rev. Justin Atchison officiating. Interment followed at Springhead Church Cemetery in Cook County. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM prior to the funeral service. John Vickers, Sydney Tillman, Brandon Taylor, Paul Phillips, Josh Edwards and Buddy Astles served as pallbearers. Rev. Justin Atchison sang "Tell Someone How Precious He Is;" other special musical selections played at the service were "If We Never Meet Again" and "Springtime in Glory."
