Obituary

Mr. William M. "Bill" Jones, 83, of Adel, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Fellowship Home's Azalea Memory Care Center in Nashville, Georgia.  He was born on November 11, 1934 in Hickox, Georgia to the late Alver Edgar and Clara Wainwright Jones and was raised in Jacksonville, Florida.

After finishing school, he enlisted in the Air Force and while stationed at Moody AFB he met and married his "Red" and love for 60 years, Martha Allen. Together, they were stationed from Fairbanks to Charleston while he served deployments to Korea and Vietnam before retiring in 1972.  Since then, they resided in Adel.  Mr. Jones retired from the US Postal Service in Valdosta after many faithful years of service.  An unapologetic Florida Gator fan, he bled orange and blue.  He will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor and loving devotion to his wife.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Martha Allen Jones of Adel; a sister, Audrey Collins of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Barbara Leslie of Gray, Georgia; another sister-in-law, Marie Jones of Florida and twelve nieces and nephews: Brent (Kim) Leslie, Donyale Leslie, David (Suzanne) Bradley, Jackye Holt, Dyne (Bill) Bollenback, Kim Mulvey, Lori (Mark) Zwecker, Debi (Eddie) Johnston, Cindy Drury, Mark Collins, Paul Jones and Allen Jones.  He was preceded in death by three sisters: Geraldine Dowling, Reba Allen and Joyce Bradley; and a brother, Harry Jones.

The funeral service for Mr. Jones was held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home South with Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiating.  Interment took place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the chapel service.  The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  Dan Alan Taylor, Jenny Taylor, Stacey Joiner and Rev. Lindsey sang "The Moment I'm Gone" and "The Best Is Yet to Come;" Mr. Taylor also played the piano.  Dan Alan Taylor, Blair Joiner, Mark Swain, Austin Lindsey, Trey Jenkins and Devyne Harris served as pallbearers.  In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Mr. Jones may be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church, 595 Utopia Circle, Nashville, GA 31639.  The family wishes to express their gratitude to the employees of Fellowship Home in Nashville for their care of Mr. Jones over the last few months.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com .
