Mrs. Wilma Ruth Simmons Smith, 89 of Adel, Georgia, formerly of Arabi, Georgia, died January 20, 2018 at The Cobblestone Health and Rehabilitation Home in Moultrie, Georgia following a short illness. She was born March 21, 1929 in Cook County to the late Samuel L. Simmons and Lessie Dona Fender Simmons. She was a homemaker and lived in Cook and Crisp Counties all of her life. Mrs. Smith was a member of The Mt. Ohram Purity Baptist Church in Arabi, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Collins "Bush" Smith.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her sister, Wava Nell Harrell of Adel, Georgia; sister-in-law: Dorothy Simmons of Charlestown, Indiana; two nephews: Donnie and Randy Simmons of Lenox, Georgia; three nieces: April Sevek of Adel, Carol Cowart of Jeffersonville, Indiana and Mary Nell Walker of Charlestown, Indiana; several great nieces and nephews also survive. She is also survived by two step-daughters: Sally Bullington and Colleen Davis, both of Albany, Georgia; 6 step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Lakeview Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenox, Georgia with Rev. Bobby Joe Hires, Rev. Richard Joyner and Rev. Larry Kerley officiating. Donnie Simmons, Randy Simmons, Melvin Simmons, Tom Sevek, Larry Kerley, Richard Joyner and Bobby Joe Hires served as pallbearers. "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" and " In the Sweet By and By" were sung by the congregation. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel.
