Mr. W.T. "Chuck" Sumner, 85, of Lenox, Georgia passed away May 1, 2016 following a long illness at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. He was born on November 11, 1930 in Tift County to the late Dock and Maude Griffis Sumner. Mr. Sumner was a retired construction contractor and also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He spent most of his life in Colquitt and Cook Counties but also lived many years in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mr. Sumner was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Sumner is survived by his wife, Wesley Jo Gray Sumner of Lenox; three sons: Tom Sumner of Warner Robins, Georgia, Stacy Sumner and Steve Sumner, both of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter, Linda Odom of Starkeville, Mississippi; two step-children: Julie G. King and Nena G. Baggett, both of Tifton; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; and a sister, Betty Bright of Orlando, Florida. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Sumner, and numerous brothers and sisters.
The funeral service for Mr. Sumner will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 3 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel) with Rev. Dan Robinson officiating and eulogy by Mr. Buddy McGill. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery near Lenox. The family of Mr. Sumner will receive friends at Boone Funeral Home on Wednesday prior to the service from 1 until 3 PM. Active pallbearers will be: Morris Sumner, Charles Sumner, David Sumner, Everette Rowan, Tim Sumner and Wendell Sumner; honorary pallbearers will be Paul Sumner, Terry Pafford, Doyle Sumner, Dock Sumner, Robbie McBrayer and Ray Gene Sumner. Codie Davis and Jason Lane will sing "When I Get Where I'm Going" and the congregation will sing "Amazing Grace". Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com.
