Lenox
Mrs. Wynelle Harris Swift, age 86, of Lenox, Georgia passed away on March 18, 2026 at the Southwell Health and Rehabilitation Center in Adel, Georgia. Mrs. Swift was born on October 5, 1939 in Omega, Georgia to the late James Winfred "J.W." Harris, Sr. and the late Helen Asberry Coleman Harris. She attended Omega High School. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Carl Swift, and accompanied him in military service in Pennsylvania before later returning to Georgia to be near family.
Wynelle was an accomplished artist and an amazing musician whose singing blessed many congregations and events across Georgia including First Baptist Church of Valdosta and Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenox. She was formerly the church secretary at the First Baptist Church of Douglas, Georgia and Azalea City Baptist Church in Valdosta and then employed with the Bennett Law Firm in Valdosta. Even after a stroke in her early 60's slowed her down, Mrs. Swift still continued her ministry through song and a card ministry to those in need or for birthdays, sickness or shut-ins. She was active in church choir and Baptist Women's Ministry in every church where her membership was held and continued to sing when her body began to fail her. She was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenox, Georgia.
Mrs. Swift is survived by her husband of 70 years, Carl E. Swift of Lenox; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Smith Cowart and Bill Cowart of Valdosta, Georgia; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Susan Swift of Nashville, Georgia; grandchildren: Tommy and Susie Swift; Timmy and Treasure Swift, Bea and Caleb Grant, Billye and Brett Jones, Brandon and Becky Swift, Bonnie and Brad Skinner, Bo Smith, Cali and Paul McCaughin, Casey Swift, Blake and Amber Cowart, Gretchen Fricks, Emily and Gaston Boyd; 19 great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Sonny and Paula Harris of Macon, Georgia, and Rev Bill Harris and Rev. Joyce Harris of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and a sister, Ferrell Ann Harris of Valdosta. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen Jane Fitzgerald and Don Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Carol Harris, Mary Ethel Fountain, Carol and Jack Baker; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Felder and Beatrice Swift.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Lakeview Baptist Church with Rev. Mac Weaver and Rev. Rodney Peavy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church prior to the funeral.
